Katie send off vs Meredith send off

Wow, watching Meredith's last show today, I don’t recall Katie Couric getting such a big send off as this. I wonder why?

reply

Well Bryant Gumble's was that big. This one was pretty good. Every one was really emotional and trying not to cry. Loved the run through the studio set to Jouney's 'Don't Stop Believing' and ending on the Plaza with Jimmy Fallon. But Bryant's is still #1 with Prince showing up dressed like him!

I found it interesting that Katie's send off was not nearly this emotional, & she has been on the show a lot longer than Meredith! It's like they couldn't wait for Katie to leave! They were like "don't let the door hit ya on the way out"! LOL!

I remember when Katie was telling Bryant goodbye and everyone knew they disliked each other. She tried to do what Matt did with Meredeth when he said what was in his heart today. Nobody believed her!!! (lol)

I've changed my mind. I just watch the segment again on my DVR. That was amazing. Everybody was out there! This was way bigger than Bryant's sendoff too!!! Great job. She really touched the people she worked with and it showed in that piece!

I met Katie Couric last week, I managed to talk to her for a couple minutes at a book signing and i mentioned to her was it ture that you and Bryant Gumbel didn't get along that well, and she started laughing, and told me, they did actually get along well. She said her first book, was filled with lies. "Katie, The Real Story" wasn't the real story. They had different views, but she said it wasn't bad.

I saw Bryant Gumbel's last day on "Today", and that was emotional, and great. Prince performing, and actually got Bryant to dance was amazing.

Meredith's last day wasn't emotional at all. It was great to see legendary Carole King perform, then do that One camera viral video. I mean, 5 years is sometime, but 15 years is even greater, plus "Today" seems to do so many flashbacks it seem like most of those clips were like from a couple months ago.

I thought Meredith Last Day was Very Emotional. They give her a much better send off then Katie. They seem to like Meredith better then Katie. I cried the entire time during Meredith last day and I cried even more after. and I cried a lot more the day after by watching the farewell videos again. I cried very hard, I didn't cry that much during Katie last day. I shredded a tear or 2 during Katie final but Meredith was a Real Sob-Fest. I couldn't control myself, Katie didn't compare to Meredith. I love Meredith a lot more. Meredith had a much better Final then Katie. I am already having Meredith withdrawals, It was an Extremely Emotional Drained Farewell Episode for Meredith. Th entire Cast and Crew did a wonderful job of sending Meredith off into the Sunset. I am sure we will see her again in the future as a Guest or Correspondent, But it just won't be the same without Meredith. I think I am gonna go cry now.

Jeez Lady, chill! You are a woman, right?

reply

Maybe, Maybe not. And who cares if I cried during Meredith last episode. I really enjoyed Meredith and I like her better then Katie.

By all accounts, Meredith was beloved by the staff at Today and NBC News. Not necessarily true of Katie, particularly in her final years there.

They didn't mention Katie once on GMA this week ..not once, not a thank you or how great she was. It was like the GMA crew were like whew thank god she's gone lol. I can see why Katie does have a strong personality and it became the katie show for a week!

Not talk about her all week..just a thank you/shout out whatever,a few minutes then move on.

reply

First of all, they thanked her plenty when she left. Every time she gets a new job, they're supposed to thank her again? Second of all, they are in a furious battle with GMA right now for top spot. Why in the world would they remind people about Katie hosting on the other channel?

reply

GMA should thank her for co-hosting for the week not Today.

reply

Haha - yes, they beat her that week. But when Robin Roberts came back (and Matt went on vacation), GMA beat Today for the first time in 15 years.
