in 1989 Jane Pauley left her post as Today Show news anchor to go to her own show and Deborah Norville took over, as soon as Deborah took over the ratings began to plummet and critics said she lacked chemistry with Bryant. She was let go one year later and of course Katie Couric took her place for 15 years.
