Today poised to drop Ann Curry

Apparently, NBC wants the change completed before the London Olympics, so the revamped team can benefit from the greater ratings exposure during that period.

This is no surprise. I predicted this two months ago when Good Morning America beat the Today show in the ratings. Ann Curry is the worst! She was OK as newsreader but she's over-matched as co-host. She stumbles, stutters, not to mention her blatant bias against guests she disagrees with. I think Matt likes Ann well enough, but the on-air chemistry with him is nowhere near Meredith's or Katie's. Ann was passed over when Katie left and the job was offered to Meredith. NBC Execs were probably expecting Meredith's tenure would have lasted as long as Katie's. When that didn't happen, my guess is Ann probably threaten to bolt if she was passed over again. The NBC suits didn't want to lose both Meredith AND Ann in the same year and so they offered it to her. They are now realizing it was a mistake.

Natalie should get the job.

How do you know viewers don't like her? Because judging by the 500 page thread on MSN's article about Ann Curry and the Today show departure, she has a lot of fans who want her to stay and want Matt Lauer to leave. Many people say the drop in ratings isn't due to Ann Curry but a lot of people who watched Today got tired of the celeb news fluff they've been churning out. A lot of viewers got tired of it and started watching CBS and GMA.

GMA recruited infotainment reporter Lara Spencer, formerly of "The Insider", last Sept and their show has been ultra fluffy ever since. It's a sign of the times and I accept that but "Today" wasn't any less celebrity-driven as GMA. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if "Today" hires someone akin to Lara Spencer to compete with GMA and get back on top.

I'll take Ann and serious news over Matt and fluff, thanks. She's too good for NBC. I'll be watching HLN or CBS this morning.

I still don't understand why she claims that this was her dream job and that she loved it so much. She was obviously bored with the celebrity interviews and cooking segments, etc. She liked hard news stories and lets face it, Today is part of NBC News but the segments are a lighter variety. I just don't believe she was happy in the role as co-anchor and maybe is actually relieved that it's all over. I think her new role with NBC news is a better fit for her.

I completely agree! I believe that Ann only took the job to save face when IMHO, she should've been the permanent host for "Dateline" or they could've created a news-oriented program for her on MSNBC. Fluff is not Ann's forte; never has been.

Also, I'm not sure that Savannah Guthrie will do all that well either because she comes from a hard news background. Hoda Kotb would be a better fit.

I can't say I'm surprised that she was fired, I've never really thought she was a good interviewer, there are times where she tries to be compassionate but it just comes off as being fake. And she could use some help with her wardrobe. Some of the stuff she has worn has been so ugly, that it's distracting.

she wasn't a coanchor for 15 years. the send off was commensurate w/ her tenure, and the tenuous sitatuion.
