It's official: Meredith's leaving and Ann's getting her job

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/meredith-vieira-leave-today-june -183335

I'm surprised that they gave the job to Ann, but I guess they are going for familiarity and stability with Ann getting the co-host's job and Natalie getting Ann's old spot. Too bad, because I don't think Ann has much chemistry with Matt, when you compare that to the relationship Matt had with Katie and has with Meredith.

reply

I think they have decent chemistry. It's not like Matt and Katie, but it definitely can work, but when or if Matt leaves, the only person I see Ann having chemistry is with Lester Holt. There is no chemistry with Ann and Carl Quintanilla or with another gentleman that substitute for Matt. I can't think of his name.

Ann is taking her place. I'm moving to GMA. It pains me to watch Ann.

Here is my take:

I usually do not post on these boards much but I think putting Ann in the main anchor desk is a HUGE mistake. She makes for a good newsreader(dateline, filling in on the nightly news, field reporting where she reports, where she doesnt ask questions), but that really is about it.

While Katie Couric was perky in general. She did not gush over Matt. Meredith and Matt has good solid chemistry.

I am sure at Today they will try to stir her to be me more Professional when not reading the teleprompter(but you can only do so much) and although seasoned as an anchor she is HORRIBLE when not scripted. In all ways, and she doesn't listen to the people see interviews, she just interrupts constantly and can not wait to ask the next question. To the point where she is off putting.

If it really sounds like I am bashing her (I am-he he). Her chemistry is actually not good with Matt(although it seems like it) She is overly the top complimentary to the point of being annoying. Its like she wants him to date him.

Natale Morales is TRULY a seemless fit. Her being attractive is a plus. Ann is attractive, but in a more exotic way. But nothing to special me. Natale is great. She can be serious when doing hard news, interviews well and excellent when they do fun, interesting and light hearted topics. She is really good in the field as well.

Amy Robach is decent, but she is really only good for weekends. Jenna Wolfe is a total nightmare. Savanna Guthrie might be a good idea but we just do not know much about her. But they are using her more.

Matt is suppose to be leave in a 1 year or 2. Not totally sure.

Natalie and Lester Holt would seem a perfect match.

I know people always say they are going to stop watching if so and so leaves. I really think people will leave with Ann.

On another note:

ABC Stinks with George S. He is stale and couldnt be more wooden.

The Early show is the one to keep your eye on. Chris Wragge, and Erica Hill are very good. Even though Erica looks like she just rolled out of bed :-)(looks tired)

Bottom Line: Ann is a NIGHTMARE. :-) Good luck Today

I too agree that Ann is not a great choice to replace Meredith..I do believe that she was chosen because she was overlooked when Katie Couric left. I would not be surprised if the powers that be told her that if and when Meredith left, Ann would be in line to take her place..

The suicide rate on America will go up once Ann takes over in June. Everything is always a travesty with her. God, I wish they had given it to Natalie. What I would do to her.

I know. Meredith always asked absurd question, and is a nasty old freak. She always coming up with some type of lame innuendo, and when someone attacks back at jet like Matt or Al she acts all offended. I'm glad she is leaving. Ann can hold it down.

Oh and even though Bryant Gumbel I heard was a pain, he is better than watching Meredith. At least Gumbel stuck to news rather than foolishness.

I’m not surprised Ann got the job this time around but I don’t think she’s the best choice for the position. The problem I have with her is the condescending tone she takes when interviewing. It doesn’t seem to matter whether it’s a world leader or a kindergartener.

I also won’t be surprised if the ratings fall with her as the permanent anchor.

reply

How do you think ratings will fall? Over the past 5 years, how many times have Ann filled in for Meredith? Today has been number 1 for all these years and Ann was at both the news desk and anchor. Still number 1. If ratings fall it would be for fluff news that no one is interested in watching.

I seriously doubt "Today" will go though a Deborah Norville thing when ratings actually declined due to Jane Pauley leaving the show with Ann Curry. Meredith for one never had that big of fame like her on the show. The woman has been with "Today" since 1997.

I’ve continued to watch the show when Katie, Meredith, or Matt is away on vacation or assignment but will most likely select another morning show rather than watch Ann (in the capacity of anchor) every day.

From what I’ve been reading other viewers feel the same. Obviously, if enough people feel the same…the show’s ratings will decline.

So is there any word as to whether Meredith is going to continue doing Millionaire?
