Did Stephen King copy the ending of Strangers on a Train?

I can't help but feel the "Excuse me, are you Guy Haines?" on the train is quite similar to the "I'm your biggest fan" ending of Misery. Perhaps it's a simple coincidence, as I'm sure lots of movies have these sort of endings.

This is my signature. There are many others like it but this one is mine

Well actually, if anyone did any copying it was William Goldman, not Stephen King. The "I'm your number one fan" line is only in the film, which was written by Goldman. That scene is not in King's novel, which has a much darker ending.

According to Wikipedia, the line is in the novel, just not at the end.
