So you just shoot into a crowd of kids???? And kill an innocent person. He had the lighter and just how does this absolve Guy? If anything it his proved Guy knew him and withheld evidence of wife's death, making him an accessory and the girlfriend ,too. And normally suspicious cops just said, oh well we'll clear this up in the morning no problem. What's some guy who murdered your wife doing with your lighter?

That part bothered me a lot, too. Kind of reminiscent of what goes on in the cop world today.

I mean, what kind of imbecile shoots at a suspect not a convict, mind you, going into a crowd of people?? You have to be a complete moron who has no business wearing a badge. And of course, the bullet labeled "to whom it may concern" strikes the merry-go-round operator.

The script doesn't bother itself with tidying up such minor plot points, but you have to wonder, how does any cop get away with such a reckless act?

Even if it was convict, unless they are in the act of escaping prison, you can justify shooting them in the back while they are running away.

There is no way they could include something like this today and not even address it. It was just meant to add to the drama in this movie, but this could honestly be the plot to a different movie. He would be arrested for manslaughter. You can’t even justify firing a shot in that situation.
