Fast and Furious Carousel

Possible Spoilers--The climactic scene involving the carousel accident hasn’t aged very well. Foremost is the notion a merry-go-round would ever be outfitted with a super-charged motor capable of reaching those breakneck speeds. What purpose would it serve even if feasible?

reply

Yes, that thing had an implausible gear ratio coupled with a 429 hp engine to enable it to reach such speeds that centripetal force would be enough to cause full grown men to reach escape velocity.

It was actually kind of hilarious to watch. Old time FX.

reply

Right, even if a carnie owner went to the expense of powering the carousel, that bad boy would be equipped with a dead man's switch.

reply

I just figured the increased speed was more of an allusion to how that moment felt for the characters and the intensity rather than actually being the speed and intensity of the actual event. Hitch does that a lot in his movies.

reply

Those kids flyin' off the carousel like Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls were no illusion.
