Something that makes no sense to me. (SPOILER ALERT!)

Something that makes no sense to me: Guy phones Bruno, tells him he's coming over that night to murder his (Bruno's) father, Bruno has no way of knowing whether Guy truly plans to kill his despised dad, yet, at the appointed time, when Guy is supposed to be coming, Bruno opts to lie, in the dark, in his father's bed - where, for all he knows, Guy is going to shoot HIM dead! Bruno's a psychopath, NOT suicidal. That scene is great for dramatic effect. Otherwise, in my opinion, Bruno opting to wait in his father's bed in the dark seems pretty unlikely.

I think that the point was that Bruno knew very well that Guy had no intention of murdering his father.

reply

That could well be. But, incidentally, in the novel, Guy DOES follow through and murders Bruno's father.

reply

Apparently, Bruno had not read the novel yet.

Another thing. Part of the Bruno's scheme was that he was going to be elsewhere, establishing an alibi, while his father was murdered. Instead he stayed at the house to see if Guy went through with it. If Guy HAD gone through with it. Bruno would have been on the scene with no alibi and plenty of motive, ruining his entire plan.

Yeah, agreed, that was really stupid that Bruno would think "this guy is probably going to shoot me thinking that I am my father, but I want to surprise him so I'll lie here in the dark and wait for him."

Not surprised though...pretty much everything in this movie was dumber than dumb.

Well no if you watched the film I'm pretty sure Bruno said something along the lines of 'you were too hurried on the phone' or something to that degree and he suggested about how he was so hesitant before but then after suddenly changing his mind Bruno was suspicious and thought he would not go through with killing his father
