Spoilers! Buying the law?...

Contains spoilers! ...

I’m a little incredulous that for the entire trial, the name of the “other girl” (Angela Vickers) was never mentioned or asked for by anyone. Her existence as George's lover was acknowledged, but only as “the other girl”. No name!

Of course it had been made clear by her wealthy family that her name was to be kept out of the case but, in reality, would it have been possible?

Surely her identity would have been of great importance to the case, if it were being tried thoroughly? For example, it could have been construed that this “other girl” knew about Alice and perhaps even conspired along with George to dispose of her on that lake near the family’s holiday home? It does seem that, in not even attempting to identify George’s other lover, that the prosecution missed a number of strong possibilities.

In order to keep Angela’s name out of things, the police, the prosecution and the defence and numerous potential witnesses would have to be “bought off”. How realistic is that scenario? - Anyone?

This isn't hard to believe at all. Wealthy people know other wealthy people who are DAs or even judges. They do favors for their friends, especially if no law is being broken. This happens today even if the law is being broken. (Read up on Jon Benet Ramsay's murder case for a mind-blower.)

It does seem that it would be hard to keep her identify underwraps. With this being a high profile case,on the the front page of the papers, you would think that some reporter would've been able to dig Angela's name up. You know, through a source close to the case not authorized to comment. And it seems that back in that day, newspapers had no problem sensationalizing crimes even more than they already were. It was all about selling more papers. Imagine this front page: THE OTHER GIRL! with Angela's picture plastered on it. Her family would have been besides themselves.
