Chester Gillette and Grace Brown

The young man the character of George Eastman was somewhat based on, was as handsome as Montgomery Clift. Those who have written about Chester Gillette mostly believe he was guilty of the murder of Grace Brown, and that it didn't happen like it was portrayed in the movie. I think poor Grace must have thought that she could use sex to get him to marry her. I guess you might say she got pregnant, intentionally. Since birth control methods were primitive, at the time, any intercourse was likely to result in pregnancy. People weren't that well educated about sex, but certainly Chester would have known he was taking a very big chance of that happening. I'm not completely convinced that he intended to kill her, but it's hard to tell where the actual information stops and fiction starts.

The worst she could have done was push him to get intimate with her but I doubt guys were any different then, than the way they are now. Many of them will hook up with anybody and why do people keep acting like they didn't know how babies were made back then?

reply

People were aware that sex could lead to pregnancy.

I just searched him up and disagree, I don't find Chester in any way, shape or form close to the boyish handsomeness of Montgomery Clift.

I looked up the real-life story, and it says that Grace Brown was the 'daughter of a successful dairy farmer'. So, presumably she must have been *privileged*, and yet the same article says she was a 'factory girl' and that Chester Gillette was mixing with 'upper class society'.

So, what was it?!?

Is this another example of Hollywood *SIMPING* BULLSHIT?!? 😠

"Boo fucking hoo" the 'poor girl' killed by the evil spoiled rich boy, when IN FACT, the 'poor girl' was from *MONEY* and was a CHILD OF PRIVILEGE.

FUCK those faux and loaded narratives. The truth is much more complex, and interesting, even if it's less likely to SIMP for the 'poor abused downtrodden victimised' woman. *sigh* πŸ™„πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ BULL and SHIT.

reply

I thought Grace was a factory girl as well.
