I was shocked to notice that the filming location for this movie is not listed on this site. The outdoor scenes are gorgeous. If anyone in the know is reading this...where was the filming location on this little gem?

No; it was filmed in the Sierras where many other films have been shot.

It looks like the Southern Sierras to me.Maybe near Lone Pine,Calif.I was enthralled by the beauty and plot twists in this film.RKO probably wouldn't have driven too far from LA to film this.I'm betting Lone Pine.If anyone knows for sure...PLEASE POST !!!! Thanks,Bill Dudley
shareSee the post below yours....according to the commentary, it was Colorado. (I would have guessed Lone Pine too!) I was surpised when I went to look it up and they didn't list the filming location.
I just got through watching the DVD with commentary. According to Glenn Erickson it was filmed in Colorado.
BTW he did an excellent job with the commentary.
Pretty sure I saw the "Denver Gas & Electric Building" in one of the night scenes, so that's consistent with Denver.
The mountains looked more like Leadville area of Colorado

Odd that you say this as I came on here also to find the location - the scene
where they are walking on the broad expanse (or just before the final kiss/scene) looked so much like walking on a frozen over Lake George in upstate NY. I'm there all the time in the winter and had a feeling this was where it was filmed. Lake George is on the border of the Adirondack Park - a pristine wilderness (as you will find ANYWHERE in this country/planet). I don't know how NY gets the rep. it does. NYC is a mere speck on an otherwise large state, mostly rural ! Look at a map sometime ! This looked so much like LG I dashed to my computer to come on here and confirm my guess but alas, Colorado it is !

This is such a coincidence - to find this (above quote) I can't help but wonder why ira-41 wrote this ?
As a native New Yorker, Ironman is right on with his assessment of the state, but I quickly realized that it wasn't shot there as although there is plenty of similar terrain in NY, those mountains were simply too big. They were smart enough to frame them in the distance so they might appear a bit smaller, but there was still no hiding the fact that those were the Rockies or some other western range.
