Ending: Do you think Paulette ever did find Michel ultimately?

In the end she was at the train station on her way to the orphanage and the last scene shows her running off screaming Michel's name. In your opinion would Paulette ever see Michel and the Dolle family again? Would the Dolles' claim her back? Is it possible for Paulette to retrace her way back from the orphanage to the Dolles' when she got older? Or do you think they will move on and never meet again? I'm curious as to what you think.

I don't think so, just because the family gave her up so quickly. I was surprised by that as they appeared to be attached to her so.

But as another poster pointed out, maybe as an adult she will find the boy because she took the familys last name.

Definetly! The family loved Paulette. The only reason they seemed glad to hand her over is because they thought the police were there because of the stolen crosses. So in that situation sure they were glad the police wanted to take her and not Mr Dolle` or Michael. The last scene shows deliberate close-up of the name tag "Paulette Dolle`". When she runs from the train station calling out to Michael I can only imagine that the best clue to anyone finding her would be the name Dolle`. Please no one burst my bubble.

The last screams and cries from Paulette are "Maman! Maman!"… She begins to understand her own situation.

She'll be grabbed back, taken to the orphanage and perhaps adopted.

Much, much later, this name of "Dolle" wll maybe makes her want to find out who were those people who gave her her first relief after the catastrophy.
