saw Lee Grant at a screening

I got a chance to see this film in a revival theater about 3 years ago and Lee Grant was present for the screening.

She was nominated for an Oscar and won the Cannes Film Festival award, however she said"I don't know what all the fuss was about,I don't think I was that good in this!"

However she gave praise to her costars, saying"wasn't Kirk great! And Eleanor Parker,I had thought she was mediocre in other films, but was excellent here."

When asked if there was any tension on the set,she said that William Bendix(who played Douglas's sympathetic police partner)truly hated Joe Wiseman(playing a loudmouth burglar)for his scene stealing antics.

Please post back and give me your thoughts on this great film, expecially if this is the first time seeing it.

I just watched this movie for the first time yesterday and found it very engrossing. I thought Lee Grant was wonderful in it.

I think Grant was being modest...She was quite special...not showey, but such depth in her eyes...and her NY-ease was perfect! To me, she seemed far more innocent than those lame-brain broads and far more sympathetic.

Actually, I agree with Ms. Grant. I think that she and most of the bigger-name stars chewed the scenery too much. I think that Bendix, McMahon, Macready, and half a dozen of the lesser-known character actors carried the film.
