Avoid the remake

This is the one that people should remember. The remake is an incoherent mess.

I could not aggree more with you. I just tried to watch it last night. Thank goodness it only cost a $1 rental. I had a very hard time keeping focused. What a disappointment. This is the new Hollywood. Notice how many assistant directors and producers where on this project.

reply

I'm just glad I didn't see it in the theater. If I had, I would've whipped the audience into a frenzy and led the charge to storm the projection booth to set fire to the print.

reply

Bman-It's just too much risk so unless it's a director I like, I just wait until DVD release, exception was Coraline, which was great or anything Pixar. I hate to harp on stuff but this movie was just a lead balloon. I can't see how a project like this could be successful with as many 2nd and 3rd unit directors. How can it be one vision with SO much input. 3 casting directors? and the cast was ridiculous, who is doing who a favor?
Too many cooks in the soup.

reply

I didn't see it in the theater...I usually avoid paying theater prices when in a few months you can get the movie for the cost of the theater.

Anyways, I rather enjoyed the remake. It wasn't incoherent to me at all. For me it ranks with Day After Tomorrow, Deep Impact, Armageddon, and Independence Day. I admit none of these are stellar sci-fi movies, but all have some interesting elements that make them watchable and enjoyable.

my god its full of stars

reply

armageddon and Independence day were actually pretty good, the fact that you would put this crappy remake in the same class as them is pretty sad.

reply

just cause you don't like a movie does not make it crap.
TDTESS 08 is an awesome movie with cool effects.

reply

You have just proven exactly what's wrong with audiences today, they don't go to see a movie because of it's plot, they only go to see it because "It has cool effects"

I bet you're one of these idiots that think both Transformers 2007 and Transformers Revenge Of The Fallen are awesome movies too, just because they have "Cool effects".

Pathetic.

Yes I loved BOTH Transformers movies because of all the cool effect.

For me A movie is not suppose to be all about thought provoking or stuff although there are movies with amazing stories, the main reason I watch a movie is for entertainment.

And this and both Transformers were entertaining.

And who the hell are you calling me an idiot, tell me who the *beep* are you.

I'll second that motion.

i liked the remake.

i may be bias, however, because i adore jennifer connely.
was this her best picture?
no,
but was it good to see her after a long break?
yes!

i'll agree that it is clearly not the best sci-fi film out there, and it wasnt as good and innovative as the original, but i enjoyed watching it.

there is a clear decline in hollywood cinema these days, and im afraid they're only going to get worse, so please dont think im oblivious to good features, but i admit to owning the remake....

I consider myself to be a good person. I love my wife and she is a wonderful person. Together, we work and play, we have friends who enjoy camping, volunteering, helping others in need and I am certain that there are good people all over the planet Earth…

so...

Just the thought of wiping out the human race to save the planet makes me feel crappy.

Ageed, the remake was good on action such as blowing things up, but the original was a much better story and movie.

reply

The remake is ok as an unintentional comedy. My boyfriend and I watched it over a glass of wine and pretty much made fun of how horrible it was.

But I agree that the original was the only one of high quality.

reply

The remake: Keanu Reeves. Speaks volumes.

reply

Why did they have to make a rebate in the first place? I have no stats, but it seems the fewer than 50% of remakes are any good. Maybe fewer than 30%.

reply

Indeed. The remake tried to take the story and update it with an ecological theme as opposed to humanity theme. Also added was a very annoying child who couldn't act his way out of a paper bag.
The remake is really a big budget mess that has nonoe of the original's charm.

reply

Agreed. I mean, seeing as how the original was based on the then escalating Cold War between nuclear powers, it was understandable how the remake would want to address current world challenges humanity is facing based on their own actions, but even the same exact demonstration (making the Earth 'stand still') could have been used to remind people just how quite and peaceful this place CAN be even if all of the pollution-producing noise and distraction makers are turned off just for a LITTLE while.

As it was though, the demonstration that the first movie got it's name from wasn't even a part of the remake!

To say that was something of an oversight would be something of an understatement.
