What about those 3 baseball diamonds in Washington?

It shows the flying saucer landing opposite the Washington Monument in a field containing 3 baseball diamonds. I see it's the Ellipse and still there today, but when did the baseball diamonds disappear? Anyone know?

They disappeared gradually. I lived in DC for 12 years. The Ellipse became a location where every special interest group wanted to erect a monument and became less and less amenable to be used as a park and public space. Now it's our nation's *MONUMENT CENTRAL.*
