This movie is still one of the ten best Sci-fi films of all time

Sixty some years after this film made its debut, it still stands the test of time, as one of the ten best sci-fi films ever.

only saw this the other week was very dated to me so its not my best however this was a lot better than say 2001 which was to boring to me.

It might appear dated, but consider this: It was made in 1951 without benefit of computer generated anything. And the electronic music score by Bernard Hermann was probably the first electronic movie score ever. Some say that honor belongs to Forbidden Planet, but I don't understand the nuances that lead people to that belief.

The Day the Earth Stood Still stands the test of time.

I agree with the premise that the original movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still" is certainly one of the best Scifi movies ever made. I fully realize many people would not agree these days as the present state of movie making has shifted solely into rampant effects dependent films.
The art of creating "atmosphere" is very present in this film. The film is especially surprising for its time as the movie was produced when small budget B movies were being thrown together in mass to capitalize on the huge interest in science fiction. Anyway, I love this movie and consider it a Sci-fi classic.Definitely top ten.
