Venus reference

Just saw this film and loved it but noticed the part in the radio broadcast early on where it's speculated that the alien must have come from Mars or Venus because they are not only the closest planets but the only ones that could possibly sustain life-was the fiery nature of Venus not known at the time?

When the movie was made in 1951, very little was known about Venus other than its orbit interval around the sun. I copied the below information from nasa.gov/venus:

1962: NASA's Mariner 2 reaches Venus and reveals the planet's extreme surface temperatures. It is the first spacecraft to send back information from another planet

The 880 degrees Fahrenheit temperature of the surface is hot enough to melt lead. Obviously this fact was not known in 1951.

I noticed that Venus was spoken of it in that way. Mind you I don't think that there is much super-rudimentary life on Mars either.
