Being The Ricardo's Movie...

So it was just announced today that Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem are in talks to play Lucy and Desi in a movie. The plot of the movie takes place over a taping week of an episode.
Supposedly the movie starts with a Monday table read and goes all the way to an audience shoot that Friday. What do you guys think of the casting choices, and do you think this would be interesting to see? For me, that the movie is being taken place in a short time period, it may be interesting to see. Nicole Kidman is a fantastic actress, but her playing Lucy, I don't know. Originally it was supposed to be Cate Blanchett, so it could change again, who knows. What do you think?! This smells. Every time they've tried this in the past, it didn't work, especially the actors who portrayed Ethel and Fred.

Is this the best way they could celebrate the 70th anniversary of I Love Lucy?

reply

I know! At least they're doing something, and Lucy's children are producers this time so I hope they make sure that all the facts are accurate. Maybe the 70th anniversary will give them intensive to continue the blu ray releases, but who knows. But i was surprise that the news of Nicole Kidman playing Lucy was on every entertainment show. Everyone was talking about it. I was pleasantly surprised how many people cared!

If it's supposed to focus on an event that nearly ruined their career, it might be about that horrible week in June '53 when Lucy was branded a communist. Every newspaper column was on it, and CBS was threatening to cancel the show. After a Hellish week, Lucy was cleared about an hour before filming began.

The episode was "Lucy and Ethel go into Business."

Yes! I heard that's what the movie will be about. That seems interesting to know more about, and very timely actually. And as a side note, the day that episode aired my mom was born, my grandfather was watching that episode waiting for the birth.

I like the idea that the movie is focusing on one specific time period instead of fast forwarding through their marriage and ending either with the end of I love Lucy or their deaths. Hopefully it'll be a solid film, let's see if Nicole Kidman can pull it off.

Well, I was wrong. This does NOT smell. It's a very good flick.

Wow! Glad you liked it! I will be seeing it soon, can't wait.
