They supposedly have a complete set on DVD. Don't know about the quality.
The quality is terrible. See my other response posted this date.

shareI was at a seafood festival this weekend on the Gulf Coast and a vendor was selling both Amos 'N Andy as well as Disney's "Song Of The South". Both titles on VHS or DVD. Their booth had TV monitors and the quality looked OK however the prices were a little high (in my opinion) and I was afraid of perhaps finding a defective copy and nowhere to return.
I can't believe the Disney company would allow bootleg copies when they could reissue SOTS and keep the money plus give consumers a better quality product.
The complete set is most definitely not available. There are still five or six eps that have not yet turned up, although CBS no doubt has their own copies rotting in their vaults. Quality is dicey. I've heard that the "Howard Madden" set is the best, but I haven't seen it personally, and it's usually a lot more expensive than other sellers' copies.
shareCowardice (aka Political correctness) keeps Amos and Andy, Beaulah and Song of the South from being legitimately released and therefore acts as support of video piracy. At least, most of the A&A run and Song of the South (best mastered from the Japanese laserdisc issue) are/is available. Only a few of the Beaulahs are. Interestingly, many blatantly racist films are available with no difficulty. I find it interesting that these were picked out and wonder if it was for some less pure reason like publicity/fame/success rather than racism specifically ( though I would say that slightly less re: SOTS - but then it's Disney so you expect very soft edges).

How many total episodes were there? Were all the episodes put on film? Which episodes are missing?

I JUST GOT THE COMPLETE SERIES FROM AMAZON.COM
shareNo, you did not get the complete series. You are lacking about a half dozen from the original series.
shareThe Amos and Andy cast all should have their place on Hollywoods Walk of Fame. It is a shame that The NAACP treaetd it like they did. They (the cast) were all excellent actors. Kingfish is my favorite among them. Since The Amos and Andy Show is in the public domain and anyone can sell, give, or loan if out, I will send a disk full of episodes to a few who request it. Post a reply with your e-mail address and we can discuss it further if you are interested. So to not be flooded with requests, if any, I will post another reply after I have distributed a few copies to a few people. I do this because I think the Amos and Andy Show should be on TV NOW. It is one of the Greatest Comedies ever created (in my opinion). But, I am a white man and may not know what I am talking about according to some. They all should be given their due... they paid their dues, each and every one to become great actors. Enough said.
shareThanks for your offer, mannmarsh. I'd very much like to receive the Amos 'n Andy DVD's from you. Please contact me through IMDb, and I'll send you my private e-mail address.

The "Amos 'n' Andy" TV show is most definitely not in the public domain. CBS still owns all rights to the series. They did lose the "Amos 'n' Andy" trademark, but not the program content.
Having said that, they are also well aware of the massive gray market in the bootleg videos, but it's unusual for them to pursue legal action. IMO, they don't want to do anything that will bring attention to the series, so they just look the other way. Pretty much the same as Disney and "Song of the South."
Thanks for the Heads Up about Amos 'n' Andy NOT being in the Public Domain. When I bought them I was told they were. Especially since I just acquired Song of The South as well. Thanks again.
you can get the whole series at:

Bear in mind that the "whole series" (containing 71 episodes in all) does lack four or five episodes that are described as "missing." In any event, I find the product in question to be very much an amateur undertaking. Video quality is very fuzzy most of the time, and audio level varies significantly from one episode to the next. Most of the opening frames are chopped off, and the menu titles are full of awful typos. Even if there are no alternatives available, this kind of production is unexcusable.
shareThere is a slew of episodes on YouTube in pretty good condition. One of the greatest comedies of all time. It was on after Terrytoons Circus with Claude Kirchner and Clownie on Tues and Thurs on channel 9 in NY. I was allowed to stay up on those 2 nights until 8pm and I will never forget that show.
