Good Flick
I remembered seeing this movie when I was very young. I came across it again a week or so ago. Great cast, fun story and a really tight, linear plot. A bit too many coincidences for my taste, but at least you can't say it was a bloated production. The traveling of the gun through various hands was well done and made sense.
Jimmy Stewart has always been a favorite and he didn't disappoint. This was his first film playing against type. He did a nice job as an angry man looking for his gun. The rest of the male cast was outstanding as well. It took a while to get over Will Geer as Wyatt Earp, but I can accept a different interpretation. Admittedly, all we know about the Earp legend mostly came from Earp himself, so I can forgive this.
The one weak spot was Shelly Winters. Her character, like so many other female characters of the time, is poorly written and has no place in the movie. Her character was extraneous and just shoehorned in as a love interest. Remove her from the movie and its basically the same movie. The rifle should have sufficed as the "love interest" or they should have written the role better. Her character's reactions are ridiculous for the circumstances. Every time she was on screen, the plot suffered.
This movie was better than I remembered it. Some of the acting was just this side of over-the-top, but not too much so. It had a crisp running time and lots of action so it kept you engaged all the way through.
My memory foam pillow says it can't remember my face. I can tell its lying.
