The old lady in the downstairs apartment is the absolute goods. Fine plot device.
Loved the Willie character also. Gary Merrill was great as the gangster. Gene Tierney was a bit bland. Andrews was an underrated actor.
Give Tierney a break. She could barely hold it together then, and was already well into the mental illness that would haunt her for the rest of her life.

Yes, Merrill recognizes a path to righteous thru the pathology of Andrews. & right away. Yes, Tierney looked off kilter. Maybe [bennett] ABOVE is right. Did not know that materiel.
