STRANGER THAN TRUTH!!!

When VCRs entered the American mainstream, the Disney people wanted to release Treasure Island on VHS cassette. It was classic, very popular, but there was a problem - it couldn't get a "G" rating.

Apparently, certain scenes of violence were considered too intense for Disney's sugary sweet approach to rating movies. The fact that this was one of the best movies they ever put together was totally ignored. The eventual solution was to release an edited version that would receive a "G" rating.

There is a happy ending to this story, though. Once Eisner took the helm (in the mid eighties) Disney adopted a real world attitude towards such things and the original, uncut Treasure Island, now rated PG, was released without fanfare.

And that's the truth!!!
