with this theme, more or less describable as "Are you sure the person you say is missing isn't a mere figment of your imagination? No one else can remember seeing them?"

Off the top of my head, I can think of three: Dangerous Crossing with Jeanne Crain, Bunny Lake is Missing, Carol Lynley and Flight Plan, Jodie Foster. I know I've seen it in other movies, a few TV movies for sure.

Funny how in spite of re-using a formulaic plot element, these all turn out to be pretty good movies.

I guess the most obvious must be 'Lady Vanishes'

I'm not sure if in Frantic Harrison Ford is faced with many who out-and-out deny her existance...

...and these movies are based on literature.

I seem to remember reading a short story which was probably the inspiration for this movie. The short story had a mother and daughter visiting France. I don't remember the exhibition.

I just saw a movie on youtube with this same theme called 'Midnight Warning' (1932). It's listed on IMDB under the title:'Eyes of Mystery'. I had never heard of it before but it seems to be one of the earliest in a long list of films that start off with a person that's there one minute then supposedly no one remembers seeing him or her. While the person they arrived with can't understand why everyone denies the person exist.

The short story mentioned in the post above was done on an episode of Alfred Hitchcock with his own daughter Patricia playing the part of the daughter. Tv westerns 'The Big Valley' & 'Bonanza' also did episodes with this same plot.Audra Barkley & Ben Cartwright were the ones who vanished.

I love this kind of stuff, it's one of my favorite tropes. My all time favorite has to be John Dickson's Carr radio play Cabin B-13.
