The actor playing the bandit is amazing
Toshiro Mifune has been amazing that I have seen him in (and I have seen about 5 or 6), but this is his crowning achievement. He was such a force of nature in this movie. For this role, he is supposed to have examined footage of how lions behave, and that research and reflection shows in this movie.
