Unsolved Mystery

This was the last film that extra and dancer, Jean Spangler, appeared in before she went missing in October 1949. Robert Cummings saw her on the lot and noticed that she seemed happy. She told him that she was and that she was in the middle of a new romance. He asked if it was serious, and she responded, "No, but I'm having the time of my life."

There are many theories regarding her still unsolved disappearance, one of which was that she was impregnanted by a movie star (possibly Kirk Douglas, as she appeared in two of the films that he starred in) and that the movie star had her killed or she died during a botched abortion. Her ex-husband wanted her out of the picture so that he could have sole custody of their daughter. Spangler had worked as a dancer at Hollywood nightclubs, which were known watering holes for the Mafia. Who knows.
