Jump from the bridge?

I LOVE this flick, but there is one point that went over my head -- perhaps because I was sleep-deprived when I watched it.

The newspaper headline about the jump from the bridge and that the body narrowly missed a boat. How did that then compel Andy to suspect Ed? That was much later than that Sat. night when Ed was on the bridge after he dumped Frazier's body so I don't get why that was a lightbulb moment for Andy. I.e., who jumped, and how was it relevant?

reply

I think it reminded him of the conversation he had with the cop who told him he saw his brother on the bridge.

Andy sees the paper with the graphics. Somebody has thrown something -himself- from the bridge and ALMOST hit the boat. What if someone has tossed something - a revolver- from the bridge and that ACTUALLY hit the boat?

reply

As others here have said, that picture made him remember that his brother was seen on the bridge.

bo-ulrich-2 has it right. It made him think about the gun being tossed off and landing in a boat.
