Eleanor Parker's Buzz cut

Does anyone know if Parker actually had her hair shaved off for this film? The scene looked very realistic, especially in the way it was carefully shot, as if there couldn't be a retake. Of course, with Hollywood magic, it could have been fake (this was a little before method acting, I believe). Just wondered if anyone knows.

I don't know, but it looked pretty real to me and was a very shocking scene.

I'm sure she actually got her hair cut for the film. That shaving scene was very brutal and disturbing.

I enjoy keeping busy. Satan finds work for idle hands.

This scene was accomplished with wigs.

Do you know that for certain? Have you read that somewhere, please say where?

reply

Yes, it appears in Doug Mc Clelland's book about Eleanor Parker. "Woman of a THousand Faces"

Read Doug McClelland's book, "Woman of a Thousand Faces". There is a biography & bibiography section in his book. After all, Miss Parker was/is a very private person). The book helps explain why Miss Parker never got the accolades she truly deserved!

The hair cutting scene looked very real, and the result looked very real afterward; not like she had a bald cap (or buzz cut cap) on.
However, her hair could not have grown in fast enough for later scenes where her hair was longer, even though I know most movies are not filmed in sequence.
As realistic as it looked, I assumed it was done with wigs and good camera work.
