I saw this film only once back in 1950 and it scared me and gave me nightmares as I was just a kid. I never saw the film again but to this day I always mention it when I think of great prison films. Sadly, this film never got the acclaim it should have. Many of the abuses seen in this great film still occur today, including things that can't even be shown on film. This film should have been a "wake-up" call to America to change the penal system but nothing has changed really since 1950. My friend recently who got framed and sent to prison on a misdemeanor charge recently got a "buzz cut".
