Plot Question: Dix didn't profit from the robbery?

I just finished watching this film for the first time and loved it, but one thing really bothered me. Maybe I missed something but it seemed like Dix not only refused a cut of the profit and the $5000 that he was owed for his role in the robbery, but also gave Doc $1000 just because he requested it. This seemed very out of character for him and I didn't really understand where the $1000 came from in the first place. Can someone please explain?

Dix was going to be paid $15,000 for his role as "hooligan". Cobb gave him $10,000 up front. Dix didn't want any diamonds (too hot) and he was trying to cover his own tracks by not giving Doc his forwarding address for the other $5,000.

ahh, that makes sense. thanks.

Also with the money he had Dix wanted to go home back to Kentucky and start his old ranch life again as he was raised. He had enought with him and he didn't care for any more money.

Dix was all about not owing money, being able to pay what he owed. Also, I thought Dix liked Doc and Doll, a rare feeling for him.

SPOILER ALERT!

Do you think that Dix knew he was going to die, sub-consciously? Sometimes I wonder if he did know he was mortally wounded, and just wanted to go home because that's where he wanted to die, and he wasn't concerned with the loot because he knew on some level that he wouldn't be needing it.

Yes, he may have known he was going to die. He couldn't get medical care or he would end up in jail. Going home before he died was his goal. I just feel bad for "Doll". I hope SHE did not end up in jail for aiding a fugitive. Guess she could claim he made her do it. Only, Doll wouldn't do that.

At the time he gave Doc the money he wasn't in distress from his wound and didn't seem to realize how serious it was.

At that point it was pretty obvious that the overall take was way more than he was getting for his part. With just him and Doc left and the extra issues they had to go through, it wouldnt have been unreasonable for him expect more than just the remaining $5000.
