This movie is almost perfect in any regard but there is one thing that really bothers me and that is the scene where the police are looking for Louis after the robbery went down. They kicked the door down only to find Louis in a casket. Perhaps I wasn't really paying a lot of attention. Was this the door to his apartment??? If it was at a funeral home it would be totally ludicrous except for the fact that we were in suspense when the police were looking for someone that we knew had been injured. Any help would be appreciated.
Yes, that was at Louis' home. Wakes / viewings often used to be held in the family home of the deceased. (That would have been somewhat less true for the actual funeral for that same reason that funeral services are still very often not held in funeral homes: many religious denominations hold the actual services in their churches.)
Before WANs, a court issuing an arrest warrant not knowing that another government (quite likely in the same building) had recently issued a death certificate for that person would have been seen as completely unremarkable, or even predictable.
I think the element of surprise is important when making an arrest. Knocking could have gotten them shot through the door; that is if their suspect was hiding out there and hadn't already died.
I notice in a lot of movies the police see the person they're going after and will call out alerting the person and giving them a chance to run. I know it adds suspense but it always seems like a stupid move. To me, the way the police barge into the apartment makes sense.
They have nothing to benefit from giving the criminals warning that they are there. Considering that they are tracking down criminals from a very recent crime and are pretty sure that they have the right suspects, its highly likely that the criminals have been waiting around expecting this to happen.
