Hamilton Burger, a criminal?!
Shocking, to say the least.
sharePerry Mason, and I have seen him in a movie as a murderous hitchhiker also.
The sun shone, having no alternative, on the nothing new. Samuel Beckett
Both William Talman and Raymond Burr played criminals or "heavys" prior to
"law and order" roles on the Perry Mason series. After all, doesn't that make
sense?
R
True. Raymond Burr in particular had some amazingly sinister roles in his early career. For people who recognize him largely on his Perry Mason persona, it can be really jarring to see him in those early roles where he played an arch criminal.
shareTalman's menacing face was perfect for roles like this, where he frightens even the other bad guys in the picture. Think what Orson Welles could have done with that mug. And there was "Ham" Berger, his crazy pun-name in "Perry Mason"
shareYeah, come to think of it, Talman's scary face from "Perry Mason" days was indelibly etched in my young mind when I was a kid watching those shows growing up in the sixties. Must explain why I never pursued a life of crime. lol
I also see he's in a movie from 1953 (which somebody mentioned above) called "The Hitch-Hiker" in which he plays a hitch-hiker who turns out to be a psychotic murderer. With a face like his, yes, I can see that! Hope to catch that film on TCM someday. (I notice it was directed by Ida Lupino).
I suggest you check out a real gem called "Big House USA".
Tallman played another big time stinker named Bill Mason.
Mostly filmed at Royal Gorge Colorado with an all star cast!
Sounds interesting. I think I've seen it listed a few times on TCM, but haven't caught it yet. I'll have to look for it and DVR it next time it's on. Tallman in "The Hitch-hiker" was on TCM recently, too. I DVR'd it but haven't gotten around to watching it yet.
share"Big House" is an underrated gem.
See it.
