OMG The script ...
The script of this movie is a holy stunning work ..
shareYes, Joe Mankiewicz was one of the finest writers to ever pass thru Hollywood (his brother Herman wrote CITIZAN KANE, so it was genetic).
The only film I can think of with dialogue as withering is 1968's LION IN WINTER with Katharine Hepburn (but avoid the TV remake).

I thought his previous film A LETTER TO THREE WIVES was just about as good as EVE. Quite the 2 years for Mankiewicz.
"Who's running this airline?!"
It is the greatest script ever.
shareI was struck by same thought while watching it again last night, great lines, timing, everything
shareThe script is exquisite. My favorite lines:
Bill: Zanuck is impaintant, he wants me, he needs me...
Margo: Zanuck, Zanuck, Zanuck! What are you two, lovers?
Bill: Only in some ways. You're prettier.
Perfection! My only question is: How did they get those lines past the censors? Or more importantly, how did they get those lines past Darryl Zanuck?
Fasten Your Seatbelts, It's Going To Be A Bumpy Night.
"...a holy (sic) stunning work." ROTFLMAO!!!
shareYep. Easily one of the best ever written. All the characters are brilliant and the actors couldn't have been cast better. George Sanders and Bette Davis in particular are amazing in this but perfect performances all round. But Mankiewicz's script is a work of art!
