Why do the Mortons move to New York?

I'm sure there could be a reason why George and Gracie might move to New York, but why would their neighbors move too? And to a fancy hotel? How could they possibly afford it? And why would they pack up and move anyway? When I moved my neighbors didn't come with me. I know I'm supposed to suspend my disbelief, but couldn't they at least come up with some plausible reason for this?

I saw this episode recently.
