Finally Airing Again!

Mentioned elsewhere, but I wanted to make sure no one misses the news:

This great old show is back on TV! On digital cable, look for "Antenna TV." With a digital receiver, look for your local Antenna TV affiliate (usually a secondary channel of one of your local big network affiliates).

See: http://www.antennatv.tv/affiliates/

My father introduced me to this show in the 80s, and I've loved it ever since.

very cool!
although i've never seen a full episode of it, i've seen clips of it, and it seems so wonderful.

it's about time they put some GOOD stuff on tv again.

You need to get yourself a digital receiver, then move your house closer to Philly so you can get the digital signal. LOL

Im 37 and not ONCE have i ever seen this show on tv! Antenna TV is awesome! This is some of the best comedy i have ever seen... it is refreshing to watch a show of innocence and helping other people (or atleast trying to help other) rather than injuring/killing as usual!

What years does the syndication package comprise of?

reply

Not sure. Antenna TV only says: "YEAR OF RELEASE: 1950, EPISODE COUNT: 239." Not sure how many episodes there were, or whether some are left out. They usually take whatever they can get from the studios in digital format.

It appears that they're starting with the filmed episodes (around 1952) through the end of Gracie's run in 1958. The latest copyright date I've seen so far on the reruns is 1956.

@rainydal74: I remember a local station in Mississippi played some of them on the weekends back in the 1980s. That's the only ones I've seen in my 39 years. Antenna TV is making me very happy with TV again. I haven't been in a LONG time.

heck, it's great that you have that channel. it truly was when tv was TV. lots of great stuff back then.
thankfully we have the interwebs so we can see some of this terrific stuff even though we can't watch it on tv.

Wait! Your house isn't on wheels? Dang it, I keep confusing Jersey with Mississippi.

But I'm glad you finally have AntennaTV on your cable service!

A truly great show. I love this channel!!!

I was so happy to see this on Television, and in such good condition! It's unfortunate that in my area it plays at midnight which doesn't work with my schedule. If they've fixed them up so well why in the world don't they release them on DVD?

-Same goes for The Jack Benny Program that plays at 1:00am

reply

Yeah, they recently moved Burns & Allen to that late night spot. The full series ran at least once at an earlier time, but that time didn't work for me very well. I had to DVR them.

And yes, if the studio has these in digital format to sell to AntennaTV, then they really COULD put them on DVD.

Thats what a VCR or a DVD video recorder is for. Set the timer to record the shows from your converter box (if the DVD recorder doesn't have a digital tuner) then watch them in the day or evening using a VCR tape or a rewritable DVD disc.

Yep! I just recently discovered I get AntennaTV on a substation of my local former UPN station.

I'd never seen Burns & Allen before, recorded a single episode semi-at random, and ended up loving it.

It's amazing how sophisticated it is compared to not just stuff from the 50s, but stuff from the 60s clear through til now.

Stuff I love now like 30 Rock and Family Guy seem like they can clearly be traced back to this...and it's still quite often LOL funny today.
