An anecdote specifically for fans of white heat

I was taking my granddaughter to a petting zoo in an affluent suburb the other day. A group of middle school students grouped in pairs were leaving the zoo. The teacher in charge addressed two rowdy boys in front of the group in this manner: "Cody! Jarrett! Behave yourselves!" I couldn't help wondering if the parents of these boys realized that they had inadvertently, and jointly, named their sons after James Cagney's most vicious and psychopathic character?

What are the odds of that? Maybe the teacher realized the coincidence and called out to them in that order on purpose. The teacher also may not have know and could have just as easily called out to them in reverse order. I guess that may have been just as strange but probably not as obvious.

I think the names Cody and Jared, which I suspect was the second child's name, are much more popular today than they were in 1949. I haven't done any research on the subject but I tend to hear those names often today but not as often in the older movies I'm always watching.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

You're probably right about Jared's spelling. (So this kid may have been named after the even-more-sociopathic Subway pitchman Jared Fogle.) Either way, the calling out of "Cody Jarett" made me stop in my tracks. Thanks for responding.

Were either of them eating a chicken leg?

reply

Cody was eating a piece of celery when he shot the guy through the trunk lid of the car. Not chicken.
