the husband
I wonder if it might have been a good idea if at the end we heard the husband on the phone, sounding just as boring and banal as we suspected he would be if not more so, throwing into sharp relief the attractions of the James Mason character as opposed to his antithesis, a worthy but dull breadwinner for whom Lucia's desires have doubtless diminished.
Slightly confusingly, Henry O'Neill is credited as Tom Harper (the husband's name) but actually plays the grandfather (who so far as I recall is never referred to as Tom).
