'Hollywood nightclub' was actually in Culver City, CA

The sign advertising the "Hollywood night club" where Mr. Joseph Young performed, and which he later tore apart, says its address is 9336 W Washington. That is the location of the Thomas Ince studio, later renamed RKO, later renamed Selznick International, and currently part of Sony, located in the run down downtown section of Culver City, CA. The town's website provides more details at http://www.culvercity.org/info/9336.asp In the twenties and thirties, Culver City was as famous for its shady nightclubs and race tracks as for its studios. I lived nearby from 1978 to 1988, in a townhouse complex that had previously been a MGM backlot.

It is actually fun to see places you are familiar and then see them as they were during Hollywood's Golden era. Katherine Orrison, who did the commentary for both versions of THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, indicates (in the silent version) that in watching an older movie, is almost like a going through a time machine, where as you can see a window of the past and how it was, which is superior to a still photo.
