My first Monster

Joe appeared on Million Dollar Movie in NYC in the 1950's when I was a kid. The family next door had three boys, two of whom were older than me, and who convinced me to watch Joe. Just a few days earlier I had been terrified by a TV show that portrayed an actor in a gorilla suit attacking another man, and I was very nervous at the prospect of watching Joe. However, the other kids had already seen it and had prepared me well. Joe was the first "monster" I ever watched all the way through, and he remains one of my favorites.

Who was your first monster?

reply

My first wife's mother. 'nuff said. She made Kong look saintly, and she was certainly less pleasant than Joe Young.

reply

Ah ha ha. :-) hmmm... I'd say the original "King Kong" or "Godzilla" flicks were my first taste. I also remember a flick about a half man/half Octopuss who could sting people with his tentacles and carrying off a damsel in distress. (it was in color)

Octaman? Kong was my first, saw it on TV one Saturday afternoon when I was about seven.

reply

Yes the movie was "Octman"! the movie scared me when I was a little kid. I was able to watch it last Winter on Cable and fell in love with it all over again.

My first mobster movie was Kiko 'The Son Of Kong'. It was shown on chanel 10 Sydney back in the late 1970's as a Saturday afternoon movie when I was staying at my grandparents house, I was about 6 or 7 and I loved it. Then I saw the original Kong, which aired around 1980 on the same chanel late one night. Mighty Joe Young I saw when I was about 9.

When I was a kid (several, several years ago) I was curled up on the couch in the living room with my dad watching a movie. I don't know the name, but, boy did it scare me. There were two ape like creatures, one brown who was nice and then a green one who was evil. I still can picture the scene vividly where the green monster picks up and eats a policeman then spits out his clothes. I shudder just thinking about it.

Little late I know, but that movie is the brilliant 'War of the Gargantuas'! :)

I looked up that title and that was it!
Now that I have the name I'll have to check it out again to see if it was as scary as I remember. Thanks gojiseb! :)
