I first saw this movies ten years ago. It was given to me as a Christmas gift from my parents. I hadn't heard of it, but I had seen several other Ealing comedies. Since then, I have watched this movies dozens of times. Without a doubt, I believe it to be the greatest British comedy film ever made. It has a an irony of tone and deftness of touch unmatched in any other comedy.
shareI agree, this film is one of the darkest, funniest films I have ever seen. Whilst it is very hard to rank films, I do believe this is in my top 3 of all time. Although Alec Guiness gets the majority of attention (and he is a great actor), Dennis Price is the real star.... one of the greatest comedic performances of all time.
Funniest Moment? - "The birth of twins came as a crushing blow, but a bout of diptheria returned the status quo..."
