Alec Guiness set or Criterion Edition?

Really want to get this film but I would like to know if someone has seen both versions of the film and if the criterion release is worth the money. The Alec Guiness set is only 5 dollars more and you get 5 films,so I would appreciate any recommendations anyone has. Thanks

I don't have any idea about the Criterion edition, but the Alec Guinness set is definitely worth the money. The Captain's Paradise is the hilarious sleeper among the collection, but all the films are excellent.

I would agree with the previous poster about owning the AG set because of the extra movies. However, I just purchased the CC edition and the print is beautifully restored (though the AG set one isn't bad) and there are two things on the second disc that are definitely worth having - the 1986 documentary about Ealing Studios is fascinating and the 70 minute interview with AG from 1977 is a must for any Guiness fan.

So my apologies because in some ways I haven't answered your question. Maybe you can get the CC discs from netflix if you are a member so that you can at least see the extras OR MAYBE friends or family could get it for you for your next birthday or Xmas.

Whichever set you choose you will be getting to enjoy one of the most wonderful and wicked comedies ever.

I'll make a good Gordon, Gordon!
