A remake would be utterly pointless
Yo whatisrebus! (Remake Redux thread)
Could you please take the time to see the bloody original before you keep commenting on who would or wouldn't be appropriate for the remake. SHEEEESH!!
Alec Guinness performs the 8 or so roles with enormous subtlety & minimal make-up (by todays standards). Even the female part. He must have been in his late 20's or so & yet plays several middle aged & older characters all with different mannerisms, accents, etc. & yet is never heavy-handed or over-acts or shows-off (which says something for the director as well). He just did his job & got out of the way. This is unheard of in todays movies. Robin Williams may be many things but HE AIN'T NEVER BEEN SUBTLE, at least not in a comedy. And he was so smothered in latex & prosthetics in Mrs Doubtfire he was just creepy-looking, unconvincing, physically anyway, as a woman. Even Dustin Hoffman was a more believable woman in Tootsie.
If they ever, God forbid, make a remake of Kind Hearts with Williams/Murphy/WHOEVER, it will most assuredly end up a heavy-handed, LOOK AT ME!,humorless, frenetic, latex-fest (especially if we Americans get our paws on it) like The Nutty Professor rather than the brilliantly dry, deliciously droll black comedy on class that the original is. Why the hell mess with a perfect movie anyway?
