GREAT lines! *spoilers*

Almost all the lines that Catherine tells her father after Morris leaves but here are some choice lines:

"It wasn't love that made you protect me, it was contempt"

"I lived with you for 20 years before finding out you didn't love me"

Father, " ... say such terrible things to me." Catherine, "A field which you will not compare me to my mother!"

--- these 2 below are my favorite lines ------

"Don't be kind to me, it doesn't become you"
"if I were to buy a man I would prefer buying Morris"

GREAT movie!

Yes, I can be very cruel. I have learned from the Masters.

But you are, Blanche. You are in that chair!

reply

Austin: (To Catherine) I shall be as fair and honest with him as he is with you.

Morris (To Austin) You are not polite, sir.

Catherine (To Lavinia about Morris) He has grown greedier with the years. The first time he only wanted me for my money. Now he wants my love too. Well he came to the wrong house! He came twice! I shall see that he does not return a third time!

Catherine: He must love me, HE MUST! He must love me for all those who didn't!!

Morris: I consider that you do me a great honor, Miss Sloper. You see (showing her his dance card), I'm rather choosy too.

Catherine: I AM NOT AT HOME!!!!

Catherine (To Austin) You had better tell me how you wish it worded!! (Regarding the changing of the will).

reply

(paraphrasing)

Austin: You have found your tongue at last! And it is only to say such terrible things to me.

Catherine: Yes, this is a field where you will not compare me to my mother.

Yes I agree to all....this movie along with its memorable lines helped me profoundly in my personal life...I love this movie and held Catherine as one of my role models

Two things:
(1) I particularly liked the scene when the Doctor met Morris' sister (or aunt), and how the sister was speechless/dumbfounded after meeting clueless Catherine. It was apparent to both of them that Morris could only be interested in Catherine's money. I wish I could recall the Doctor's lines, but it was something like "how can such a person (Catherine) defend herself against someone like Morris" or "not be a victim." And the sister couldn't raise a word to refute that.

(2) the thing that stuck me most about the movie, and why I like it so much, is that EVERY line and scene is so memorable, striking, well done! Nothing is wasted in this movie. Each line and scene is better than the preceding ones!

The one after Catherine asks her father to praise her a little.
He goes over to close the door and tells his sisters: How can I protect such a willing victim?

Or something like that I loled!

I also find this line: "You'll never know, will you??" when Cate tells her father after Morris deserts very cruel.
