Filming Location???

I'd love to know where the outside scenes were filmed. Very interesting architecture. How can a film like this with such a fantastic cast not have a filming location listed?

I found this in the Turner Classic Movies website:

According to Hollywood Reporter news items, the scene in the women's prison was shot on location in the Los Angeles County jail, and the courthouse scene was shot at the courthouse in Santa Ana, CA.

(I was really struck by the courthouse -- I think that architectural style is called Richardsonian Romanesque.)

I thought it odd too that they did not tell where it was set other than it being an overnight flight away from Chicago. My guess is it would have made it seem too much like Double Indeminity if they used a lot of identifiable California or LA locations.

It's not Richardson Romanesque (it's far too plain) but it is the old Santa Ana Courthouse - here's a link http://www.ocparks.com/oldcourthouse/ . The county built a new courthouse and this one was last used in 1969. The building's been designated an historic landmark and underwent restoration between 1983 and 1992.

It looked very much like Natchez Under the Bridge famous for this and many other noirs.
