I missed the ending

I've read that Thelma dies at the end. I recorded this movie to VHS, but the tape ran out and I missed few minutes of the end. Last thing I saw was Thelma and Tony in a car discussing about cigarette case.

What happens after that, how does Thelma die? Does Tony die too? Please help.

reply

Thelma shoves the lighter in Tony's face and they crash. She dies on the operating table telling Cleve that she loves him.

reply

HEY! What happened to the courtesy of a SPOILER warning?! Not that I think I can endure another minute of this film. I'm trying to hold off at least until Cleve is sober!

reply

What part of "I missed the ending" doesnt sound like it's not going to be telling the end??

reply

This movie was one of Stanwyck's few stinkers; knowing the ending takes nothing away from it. Pure dross.

Nothing is more beautiful than nothing.

reply

OK children. You can all go back to watching " America's Got Talent " now. Leave the quality entertainment for the adults. Sheesh.

reply

Well Spical, I love Babs Stanwyck in anything she does, but I felt the ending was very contrived and the overall film a little odd. In fact, I told my boyfriend they would drive off the cliff before it happened. Overall, I didn't think it was her best work, but I'm glad I saw it.

"This calls for a special blend of psychology...and extreme violence."

reply

OK. That's pretty reasonable. I guess I did get a bit dicky. BTW. mptnla...speaking of driving off a cliff, have you ever seen Angel Face?

reply

I did. That's another one with a driving off the cliff episode, but I didn't really expect it.

"I hope she didn't take my attempt to destroy her too seriously."

reply

Yes, "Angel Face" is a terrific film. It is suspenseful, atmospheric and in a class along with some of the greatest Noirs. "Thelma J" is good and Stanwyck or Siodmack are always worth watching, but Angel Face is excellent - tightly paced, does not telegraph all its twists and turns and has Mitchum- well, W Corey is good but Mitchum IS noir.

reply

The problem with the ending was the omnipresent code. Once Thelma admitted that she had killed her aunt, she had to either get convicted or die before the film ended. No Maddie Walker "live in a far off land" endings back then.

reply

Then why were you on the boards for this movie? Even more puzzling: why did you bother to comment, ass hole?
