Just watched it and I'm also not clear. Enley had agreed that $10,000 was no problem if they made Parkson go away. But, Enley didn't agree when he knew what their plan was. The movie doesn't show any money being passed so I'm not sure why the hit man (Johnny) would want to kill Parkson. Maybe, as you say, they were going to blackmail him.
