At the end of the average episode, one guy says "Who was that?" or words to that effect. Someone else answers, "That was Tonto and the Lone Ranger!"
My question is, I notice in the occasional episode I catch in syndication now that "Tonto and" is bleeped out. Why? Thanks.
Because the name Tonto, in Spanish means "fool" and in some aboriginal language means wild Indian or something. This show was definately not politically correct and thats why they go and bleep it out.
shareI doubt it. They call him Tonto throughout the rest of the episodes. Probably some dodo thought the ends should all consistently just mention the Ranger.
And given how important tricksters are to Native American cultures, calling someone by a name that means "fool" isn't entirely an insult.

Not every episode ended with "Tonto and". The last thing said in every episode was "The Lone Ranger," so while they sometimes said thats "Tonto and The Lone Ranger," not every episode included "Tonto and," and you never hear anyone say "The Lone Ranger and Tonto."

Not every episode ended with "The Lone Ranger". There were four episodes that didn't end with that phrase. The first 2 episodes that explain how he became The Lone Ranger, and in S3 E41 "Hidden Fortune" and E45 "The Midnight Rider". KAS
