How I would have changed the ending

When Curtin was reading Cody's letter from his wife, it was very poignant. She was hoping he'd finally return after being away for so long trying to strike it rich. She ended her touching note by saying "Remember, we've already found life's real treasure."

Wouldn't it have been a better ending if they showed Curtin ending up in Dallas on the orchard farm with Cody's widow and watching the peach trees bloom? Meaning, that Curtin found the REAL "treasure" of the Sierra Madre, and that was the love of a kind woman and a peaceful, happy, and simple life, like he told Howard he hoped to have when he struck it rich. That should have been the moral of the story, in my opinion. I think it would have been a much more successful film when it came out.

It also would have evened out the three stars of the film, since Holt was sort of the third wheel competing against Bogart and Huston for screentime and attention.

I would have liked that ending much more.
