Maybe a part of some blu-ray feature or something like that, but I would love to see a technicolor version of this movie. I was just looking at some behind the scenes photos that were taken in color and they look amazing. Imagine how different the whole film would have been if it had been shot that way. I think it really would have positively affected the film. Who can say for sure. I just think it would make it feel less aged.
I don't agree, but then I dislike colourisations on principle. I agree though that the film certainly would have been different had it been shot in Technicolour.

Sorry for the confusion. I don't dislike the film because it's black and white. And it's a great film too. I suppose I just think that because of the atmosphere and the setting that the characters are in, it would be appear more real and vibrant if the film had been shot in technicolor. This is purely opinion based, of course.
Well, pretty much any film made before 1980 is going to look and feel aged when compared to today's films. There is nothing that can be done about that.
However, if the film's story is good enough (and Sierra Madre's certainly is) then I can easily overlook it's age and get a quality experience out of watching the film. As long as a movie has substance, charm and character, age is irrelevant. I hope that answered your question.

I got this on dvd and was surprised to find that it had been colourised. It was done rather well and I liked Jane Greer in colour even more than B & W. I keep it as a curiosity, because it's interesting to see colour as it was in the late 40s, before modern chemicals etc.

The colorized version of "The Big Steal" you saw was not "colour as it was in the late 40s, before modern chemicals, etc." The color you saw was created by a computer in the 1980s or 1990s. Actual color movies from the late 1940s are brilliant, much more so than any modern colorized movie.
