Staten Island Location

Wish the imdb film locations feature told where on Staten Island the film was shot.

I am pretty certain that this was filmed here in Staten Island, perhaps in Princes Bay or in Great Kills, the color of the sand, the driftwood, the clam digger on the beach, and the old shacks look like the south shore of the Island in 1948. At the very least the writer, Lucille Fletcher summered here - as she was a Brooklynite - and might have employed these references in her script based on her time here.

Thank you so much for the background info, drewmo57! I thought it might have been the south shore. I recognized the scene when he SIRT train is passing that old factory, after pulling out of the St. George station.

The stock footage of the ferry and the train on Staten Island are authentic. But I believe the Dunston Terrace beach scenes had been shot somewhere on the California coast.

There is a nice trick shot of Sally and extras walking toward the ferry. Sally and the extras walk toward a rear projection screen. They blend in nicely with the stock footage of real passengers boarding the boat.

Sally tells Leona that she went "far out" on the island. Yet the crumbled piece of paper Leona has says that Waldo Evans' house on Staten Island is in Dongan Hills. A map search shows the actual town is only five stops from the ferry on an island that has 22 stops.

Furthermore, a map search shows that Dongan Hills is inland. The closest beach to Dongan Hills is South Beach. But Dunston Terrace is suppose to be in Dongan Hills which makes me think the screenplay writer took certain artistic license with the script.
