Dr. Kik....
I'm in love with Dr. Kik.
shareBritish actor LEO GENN was Dr. Kik and was also great in QUO VADIS--where he delivered some of the best lines with an edge of sarcasm.
shareWith the end of the war Genn, who had been awarded the French Croix de Guerre in 1945, went back to law counseling. He volunteered his legal knowledge to the British army unit involved in the investigation and prosecution of Nazi war crimes perpetrated at the Belsen concentration camp near Luneburg, Germany. And in the subsequent tribunals, Genn served as assistant prosecutor.
Leo Genn is terrific in this, as he was in pretty much anything.
For me his most notable role was as Starbuck in "Moby Dick", the epic psychological adventure with Gregory Peck, directed by John Huston. Brilliant stuff.
Dr. Kik was based on Gerard Chrzanowski, as explained in his obit in the NYTimes of 12 Nov. 2000. The photo suggests he might not have been quite so hot as he appeared in the film.
shareThe character Dr. "Kik" is actually based on my grandfather Gerard. He may not have been quite as attractive as he appeared in the film but he was even more charming and lovely then they could even depict.
shareI liked the sound of his voice. :)
shareSo funny, because in the book, Mary Jane Ward repeated mentions his wonderful voice -- that was the thing that first brought her back to herself -- the sensory experience that finally drew thought, sensation, and a perception of time back into her sphere of experience. the casting director clearly had read the book.
While his descendants modestly play down the hotness factor, his attractiveness was also mentioned repeatedly.dolceri ac dolcere
You aren't making sense about what was so fuuny...
shareDr. Kik is incredibly sexy. Yum. His voice is heavenly.
shareCan't get enough of Dr. Kik (Leo Genn)?
You will swoon and want to be the slave of Giaus Petronius (Genn) in Quo Vadis (1951).
I fell in love with Leo Genn in Quo Vadis....and I carry a torch for him to this very day!
Leo Genn is fantastic in Quo Vadis, too! He is also in Circus of Fear and The Bloody Judge. Both films are on DVD but are not particularly good except for the Leo Genn and Christopher Lee factors. Both Lee and Genn are sweet!
shareAt first glance, I just thought he was alright, but as we see what a kind & gentle doctor he is, trying so hard to help his patients, especially Mrs. Cunningham, and the warmth of his voice; I myself fell for Dr. Kik! Would love to see more films w/ that actor - I think this is the only one I've seen him in - so far.

Yes, he certainly was a very good looking actor - It's funny, I never noticed how many side profile shots the movie had of him...

This is exactly what happened to me. I caught the last half of the movie on tv and was intrigued by the doctor character. Fortunately for me, it was rebroadcast later that same day. Since then I have watched the movie about 100 times, often fast forwarding to the Leo Genn parts. I am watching it again tonight. I also have collected many of his other films. I love Green for Danger, Quo Vadis (although at first I stopped watching after Petronius' death and didn't even realize there were lions later on in it!) Wooden Horse and Steel Bayonet. If anyone can help me find copies of Chantage or The Green Scarf, I would be eternally grateful. Needless to say, I am a full fledged fan'atic'! Sad but true. I just wish he had done more films - good ones.
